Sölvi Geir Ottesen Jónsson (born 18 February 1984 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic footballer, currently playing as a centre back for Danish Superliga club F.C. Copenhagen.

Club career

Born in Reykjavík he started his career at Vikingur, where he came through the academy. Ottesen made 32 appearances for Vikingur between 2001 and 2004. Ottesen signed for Swedish side Djurgården in 2004 after being an integral part of Vikingur's fortunes. He was capped 35 times, scoring 2 goals for Djurgården.[1][2]

Following a string of impressive performances, he signed a three-year contract with SønderjyskE who play in the Danish Superliga.[3] On 18 June 2009 it was reported that Ottesen would be going on a trial with Glasgow Celtic in Scotland. Icelandic newspaper Fréttablaðið stated that he had been invited to train with Celtic during pre-season with a view to a deal subject to a permission from his Danish club, SönderjyskE. In June 2010, he signed a three-year contract with defending Superliga champions F.C. Copenhagen.[4]

With an impressive start in the Danish capital, Sölvi Ottesen scored a vital goal in the UEFA Champions League Play-Off Round against Rosenborg B.K securing F.C. Copenhagen a place in the group stage for the second time in the club history.[5]
